Cell Phones and Driving!
June 27, 2008

Dear Editor:

I am thankful for the wonderful police force that we have here in Darien. Through the years that I have lived and worked here, it has been a comfort to know that such fine men and women are watching out for my safety and protection. In the past they even checked the doors of many of the buildings in the downtown area and I often received a call at home when a door was left unlocked.

I appreciate the fact that the laws concerning seat belts are being enforced since this will protect those who are driving in the event of an accident. I am concerned though that I see many people riding around town speaking on cell phones and endangering the lives of those in other vehicles as well as pedestrians. It is difficult for an individual to concentrate on driving when they are speaking on the phone at the same time.

I would hope that people would police themselves so that our busy police force will not be forced to start giving tickets to those who violate the cell phone law. We must not only be concerned about our own safety but also the safety of others.

Sincerely,

Dr. Tony Gibson, Pastor
