From The Pastor's Corner

May 19, 2008

Dear Editor:

Well it happened again.  On Thursday, May 15, 2008 the Supreme Court of the state of California is a four to three decision struck down the will of the people of California and opened the door to same-sex marriages.  We have another example of justices legislating from the bench and imposing their will on others.  When are we going to say: “Enough!’?   It is time for a Constitutional Amendment that will guarantee that here in America we recognize that marriage is intended to be the union of one man to one woman.  All of the candidates for the office of President of both parties say that they believe the states should make this decision.  I am in favor of states rights but I believe that we are seeing that justices are able to thwart the will of the people.  The justices of California have redefined marriage according to their own desires.  We must not remain silent.

For almost 34 years I have been compelled to speak as the conscience of this community.  I have spoken through letters to the editor in the past and have met individuals who later told me that they agreed with my statements but I have not seen others willing to publicly put their support in print.  I do not know how much longer God will enable me to serve in this community and so I trust that others will take up the mantle and speak out in support of family values.  We will lose one of the most precious segments of our society if we allow marriage to be redefined.  Future generations will pay the price of our silence.  Will other join me in letting their voices be heard in favor of keeping the historic definition of marriage?   I hope so.

Sincerely,
