From The Pastors Corner

November 21, 2007

Dear Editor:

I wonder if anyone else is concerned about the fact that there is a concerted effort to remove any vestiges of the religious history of our country.  I understand that there are places where children are taught that the pilgrims gave thanks to the Indians rather than to God at the first Thanksgiving celebration.  The Supreme Court is again considering cases which involve the removal of the Ten Commandments from public places.  Any mention of God is being removed from public displays.  When will those of us who believe in God say “enough”.   I believe that we must be sensitive to the minority but not at the expense of the majority.  America was founded on Judeo-Christian principles and we must not deny our history.  Our founding fathers believed in tolerance but they did not deny their beliefs at the expense of so-called tolerance.  The only people who are truly tolerant are those with firm beliefs.  Others do not need to be tolerant because they lack conviction.  In fact many of those who cry out the loudest for tolerance are actually intolerant.  It seems that we are tolerant of other religious beliefs today except those held by Jews and Christians.  There is a dangerous rise of Anti-Semitism in the world today and I believe it will eventually spill over to include Christians the way it did during the Second World War.  If we remain silent now it may be too late to speak later.  I would like to know if others agree with me or do I stand alone.

Sincerely,

Dr. Tony Gibson
