From The Pastors Corner

April 22, 2005

Dear Reader:

I want to weigh in on the side of the Reverend Christopher Leighton and the other Episcopal Clergy who are being threatened with removal from their office as Priests in the Episcopal Church. It seems strange to me that the good are made to appear to be evil and the evil are made to appear good. Those who are standing for what is right are charged with being wrong and those who are wrong are convinced that they are right. The six clergy have not deviated from the historical position of the Episcopal Church but the leadership of the Episcopal Church surely has. These men are standing for the authority of the Scripture and are holding to views that have been held by not only the Episcopal Church but by all those who are true followers of Jesus Christ.

I am not an Episcopalian but I support these courageous men who are willing to put their jobs on the line in order to stand for the truth. I may disagree with these men on some minor points of denominational practice but we stand together on our commitment to Jesus Christ and the authority of His word. If they are forced out of the Episcopal Church I am sure that they can find a home among Conservative Baptists, Orthodox Presbyterians and Free Methodists as well as other denominations that believe in the authority of the Bible. As I have read the articles that have appeared in the local newspapers my mind was drawn to Isaiah 5:20-21 “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil, that put darkness for light and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter. Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight.”

I trust and pray that these men will be successful in bringing the Episcopal Leadership back to the historic Christian faith. They have a difficult task before them and will need the support and the encouragement of all who are committed to Jesus Christ and His word.

Sincerely,
Rev. Anthony L. Gibson, Pastor
