To the Editor The Darien Times I wish to respond to the letter written by Mark Stephenson that appeared in your paper last week. Let me say that government did not institute marriage God did. In Genesis God created a
wife for Adam and her name became Eve because she was to be the mother of all
living human beings. Government has
the right to regulate marriage but God instituted it as the union of a man
and a woman, male and female. He told
them to be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth. Same sex unions are not able to multiply
and could bring about the destruction of the human race. It breeds disease and also other social
problems such as violence. No one is
saying that two men or two women cannot love each other, but that love need
not be expressed in physical relations between them. God is not a bigot but He does desire what
is in the best interest of the individual and society and same sex
attraction, and same sex marriage is destructive to both the individual and
society. Those of |
us who do not approve of same sex marriage are not homophobic. We are not afraid of those who are attracted to the same sex we just believe that it is harmful and that it should not be endorsed. We are not bigots either. We believe that everyone has a right to practice whatever they believe so long as they do not infringe upon the rights of others. What an individual does in his or her private life is between them and God but when they look for public approval of their behavior then those of us who oppose them must speak out. As a Biblical Counselor I strive to help those who are in bondage to same sex attraction to see that there is a way out through relying upon Jesus Christ and the deliverance He made possible when He died on Calvary and arose again from the dead. I believe that there is hope for those who identify themselves as Homosexual. Sincerely, Anthony L. Gibson, D.Min Pastor, Calvary Baptist Church Darien, CT |
